The Hockey News Is Ridiculous

I got my copy of The Hockey News that listed the top 50 players in the NHL. Lubomir Visnovsky was not one of them. They had 8 defensemen listed: Lidstrom, Pronger, Phaneuf (17th!), Kaberle, Chara, Gonchar, Boyle, and Schneider. If you do not think that Lubomir Visnovsky is better than at least one of those players, you are an idiot.

Oh, and Sharks fans: they didn't have Patrick Marleau on there either.

I stopped reading the hockey news months ago. Every so often I see one on the shelf, and think about picking it up. Then I remember that they are a bunch of tools. Nothing good comes out of that dead tree.

yes and they had dominik hasek above giguere, who in there right mind would right now rather have him over giguere for there franchise goalie, hasek shouldn't be even close to making that top 50, maybe in years past but now, not a chance

I subscribe to the Hockey News because it helps me maintain my illusion that hockey is still relevant in America. That being said, the list is ridiculous. My D order would be: Lidstrom, Pronger, Phaneuf, Boyle, Visnovsky. And I'd put Zubov and Timonen ahead of Gonchar and Schneider.

no hasek is old and slow, sure he can still play but giguere was much better last season, just look at the playoff series, the ducks got outplayed in that series and they still won because giguere was the better goalie, and hasek is absolutley terrible at handling the puck, he gives up a goal like ever other time he tries to play it. but yeah i agree with you about visnovsky too.

The top goalies in the NHL are Brodeur, Luongo, Kiprusov, Turco, Miller and Lundquist. So unless those guys are on the list, neither Giguere nor Hasek should be on there. Also Phaneuf is quite overrated. He should make the top 50 barely. And Visnovsky is definitely better than Kaberle, though so are Zubov and Timmonen as was mentioned above.

Aw, don't cups count for anything anymore? It's not a bad list you've got, but I dunno about Miller. A lot of goalies could get wins with that kind of goal support. I think I'd rather have Backstrom than Miller, in my opinion.
